Felix Baumgartner's space dive took place on October 14, 2012, as part of the Red Bull Stratos project. He jumped from a helium balloon at an altitude of 128,100 feet (39,045 meters) in the stratosphere, breaking several world records. Baumgartner became the first human to break the sound barrier outside a vehicle, reaching speeds of 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph). The jump lasted a total of 9 minutes and 18 seconds, with 4 minutes and 20 seconds of freefall before his parachute deployed.
