Have you heard of Plovdiv? 🇧🇬✨

This ancient European city has an incredible history spanning over 6,000 years! 🏛️

Originally founded as the Thracian settlement Eumolpias, it was conquered by Philip II of Macedon in 342 BC and renamed Philippopolis in his honor.

By 46 AD, Plovdiv became part of the Roman Empire, earning the name Trimontium, meaning "city of the three hills."

One of its most iconic landmarks is the Roman theater, built during Emperor Trajan’s reign. With a capacity of 5,000–7,000 spectators, it remains one of the best-preserved ancient theaters in the world!

Though partially destroyed in the 5th century, the theater remained hidden for centuries until its rediscovery in the 1970s.

Plovdiv’s rich history and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination. Save this post and share it with others so they too can uncover the wonders of this historic Bulgarian gem! 🏛️✨
